Effects of exercise on aerobic fitness?

1) Why would a person who exercised regularlys’ breathing and pulse rates be less at rest, during and after exercise than a person that didnt?

2) Why would a person who does exercise oftens heart rate return back to their resting pulse rate quicker after exercise than a person that didnt?

3) And if they did regular exercise then why would they be able to carry out the sports for a much longer amount of time at a higher intensity?
